In short: you import products from Shopify, WooCommerce and Magento into CloudCart with three apps in the admin, included in every plan. The Shopify app and WooCommerce Importer read the standard product CSV export of each platform. Magento Importer connects to a Magento 1.x store over the SOAP API and pulls products, categories, attributes and customers. Orders are not moved by the apps: the CloudCart team moves them.
What the platform importers are
The importers are tools in the CloudCart admin that move your catalog from Shopify, WooCommerce or Magento yourself, with no developer. The move is one-way: the old store is only read and never changed.
The Shopify app and WooCommerce Importer take a file: the CSV export from the old platform. Magento Importer takes the old store's address and API access and fetches the data itself, customers included.
CloudCart, the Bulgarian ecommerce platform, lists the importers in every plan from Baby Pack to CC Master on the pricing page. A store on OpenCart has no dedicated importer: you move it with the general CSV or XML import, described in the guide to importing products from CSV and XML, or the CloudCart team moves it for you.
Who the importers are for
The importers suit a seller who knows the catalog, has access to the old admin and wants the products moved in hours: typically a store with up to a few thousand products, standard variations such as color and size, and no plugins that keep data outside the product record. They also let you try CloudCart with your real catalog before you switch.
When you need order history, SEO texts, blog posts and every redirect in one go, or the store runs on Magento 2, the shorter route is the move by the CloudCart team, described on the migration page.
Importer app, general CSV import or a move by the team
An importer app is fastest with the platform's standard export. The general CSV import (Apps → CSV Import) takes any column order, and the team handles stores that need orders and old URLs moved together.
| Route | When it fits | What it moves | Your work |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shopify app or WooCommerce Importer | an export made with the built-in Shopify or WooCommerce button | products with variants and images (WooCommerce also categories) | one file, no column mapping |
| Magento Importer | a Magento 1.x store with SOAP API access | products, categories, attributes, customers | three connection fields and a choice of what to move |
| General CSV import (Apps → CSV Import) | a file from an export plugin, OpenCart, Magento 2 or your own spreadsheet | products, customers, subscribers, redirects, blog posts | you map each column to a CloudCart field |
| Move by the CloudCart team | a large catalog, order history, SEO and old URLs | products, customers, posts, content, order history, 301 redirects | access to the old store; it keeps selling until the switch |
What each importer moves
The table shows what each app moves automatically and what needs a separate import.
| Data | WooCommerce Importer | Shopify app | Magento Importer |
|---|---|---|---|
| How it connects | CSV from the standard export | CSV from the standard export | store URL, API user and API key |
| Products | yes | yes | yes |
| Variants | yes, up to 3 attributes (for example color, size, material) | yes, rows with the same Handle become one product | yes, configurable products become products with variants |
| Images | downloaded and stored in CloudCart | downloaded and stored in CloudCart | downloaded and stored in CloudCart |
| Categories | yes, with subcategories (Cat1 > Cat2) | not by the app | yes, the same tree |
| Customers | no, separately in Customers → Import | no, separately in Customers → Import | yes, with new passwords |
| Orders | no | no | no |
| 301 redirects | separately, from CSV | separately, from CSV | separately, from CSV |
All three apps download every image into CloudCart's own storage, so you can close the old hosting or cancel the Shopify subscription and the products keep their images.
Do orders move?
The importers do not move orders. The product exports from Shopify and WooCommerce contain no orders, and Magento Importer has three import types: everything, products only and customers only, where "everything" means products and customers.
The CloudCart team moves order history as part of a migration from any platform and keeps it separately, for reference and accounting. If you move yourself, download the orders from the old platform as a file and keep it.
Important: do not close the old store before you have downloaded its orders and invoices. Once the hosting or subscription ends, you may lose access to them.
Importing from WooCommerce, step by step
WooCommerce Importer reads the CSV file from the built-in WooCommerce exporter and creates the products in CloudCart. The path in the admin is Apps → WooCommerce Importer (/admin/apps/woocommerce).
- Export the products from WooCommerce. In WordPress open Products → All Products → Export, choose all columns and all product types, including variations, and download the CSV file (WooCommerce's guide to the product exporter).
- Leave the columns in place. The app reads cells by position, so do not delete columns or use export plugins.
- Install the app. In CloudCart open Apps, find WooCommerce Importer and install it.
- Upload the file. In the app settings choose the file in "File to import products from" and start the import.
- Wait for processing. The file is processed in batches of 50 rows. Do not uninstall the app while the import runs: uninstalling stops it.
- Check the result. Compare the product count with WooCommerce and open 5 to 10 products with variations.
If CloudCart returns "Invalid csv file", the file has fewer than 38 columns or is not a CSV. Export again with all columns.
The general order of a platform switch is in the ecommerce replatforming checklist. How to keep your Google rankings when you leave WooCommerce is covered in migrating from WooCommerce without losing SEO.
Importing from Shopify, step by step
To import products from Shopify into CloudCart, you upload Shopify's standard product CSV export to the Shopify app. The app asks for no API key, store address or access token: the form has an Active toggle and a file field. The path is Apps → Shopify (/admin/apps/shopify).
- Export the products from Shopify. In the Shopify admin open Products → Export, choose all products and the CSV format (Shopify Help Center). For a large catalog Shopify emails you the file.
- Keep the columns as they are. The app reads SKU, barcode, price, stock, image and variant options by position, so a file from an export app with another column order will not read correctly.
- Install and activate the app. In CloudCart open Apps → Shopify, install it and switch on Active.
- Upload the file. Choose the CSV file and start the import. It runs in the background in batches of 20 products, so you can close the page.
- Check the variants. In Shopify each row is one variant, and rows with the same Handle are one product. In CloudCart they become one product with several variants, each with its own SKU, barcode, price, stock and image.
Each CSV file is one Shopify store. With several stores, upload each export separately and wait for the previous import to finish.
Importing from Magento, step by step
Magento Importer connects to the old store through Magento's SOAP API v1 and pulls products, categories, attributes and customers. Only Magento 1.x has SOAP API v1, so the app does not work with Magento 2. The path is Apps → Magento Importer (/admin/apps/magento).
- Create API access in Magento 1. In the Magento admin create a web services (SOAP API) role and user with read rights for the catalog and customers. Note the user name and key.
- Install Magento Importer. In CloudCart open Apps, find Magento Importer and confirm the installation.
- Enter the connection details. Fill in the three required fields: Magento store URL, Magento API username and Magento API key.
- Choose what to move. Pick Everything (products and customers), Products or Customers. Pick the weight unit, Kilograms or Pounds, as the weights are recorded in Magento. CloudCart converts them during the import.
- Follow the progress. The "Importing in Progress" page shows each stage and, at the end, how many customers and products were created.
- Check and switch. Compare the product and customer counts with Magento and review the configurable products. Magento stays unchanged throughout.
A Magento import takes from about 10 minutes to several hours, depending on the catalog. You can stop it with Cancel Import Process, and the products and customers already created stay in CloudCart. A new run fetches everything again and creates or updates the records.
For a store on Magento 2, the routes are a move by the CloudCart team through the API or an export, or your own CSV export uploaded with the general CSV import, as in the guide to importing products from CSV and XML.
What happens to customers and their passwords
Customer passwords do not move from any platform, because they are stored as a one-way hash. Every imported customer sets a new password through "Forgot password" on first login.
Magento Importer saves customers with a confirmed email and marketing consent switched off, and can send each of them a link to set a new password.
From WooCommerce and Shopify, customers come in through a separate CSV import in Customers → Import. Export them from the old platform: in WooCommerce from the Customers report in Analytics (WooCommerce documentation), in Shopify from Customers → Export (Shopify Help Center). The fields are name, email (required), note, marketing consent and group; addresses are not imported.
Important: carry marketing consent over exactly as it was on the old platform. A customer who never subscribed to the newsletter, or who unsubscribed, must not receive marketing emails from the new store either.
How to keep old URLs with 301 redirects
Old product and category URLs carry over with 301 redirects, uploaded from a CSV file in Marketing → SEO → 301 redirects. A 301 redirect tells Google and the shopper that the page has moved permanently and passes the ranking signals to the new URL (Google Search Central).
- Collect and pair the URLs. Take the old sitemap and the pages with traffic from Search Console, and put each old URL next to its new CloudCart URL in a spreadsheet.
- Upload the file. In Marketing → SEO → 301 redirects click Import redirects, upload the CSV, map the old and new URL columns and confirm. The import may ask for a two-factor code.
- Test 20 to 30 URLs. Open the old URLs in a browser and check that each lands on the right product.
Manual 301 redirects work on every plan; importing them from a file is capped at 100 on Baby Pack and 2,000 on Starter Pack, and unlimited on CC Pro and CC Master. Redirects work once the domain points to CloudCart.
What to do in the first 14 days after the import
These steps take less than a day of work, spread over two weeks.
- Review 10 products on a phone. Check images, the color and size choice and the add to cart button on the products with the most variants.; the checks are in the guide to the mobile version of an online store.
- Submit the sitemap in Search Console. CloudCart generates a dynamic sitemap.xml. After the domain switch, submit it and watch the pages report: every old URL with a 404 error is a missing 301 redirect.
- Send the password email. The first email from the new store is about the new password. Marketing emails go only to customers who gave consent.
- Reconnect ads and feeds. Point the Meta and Google Merchant Center catalogs to the new product URLs, or the ads send people to the old pages.
- Compare two weeks with two weeks. Check orders, average order value and conversion against the last two weeks on the old platform. If they drop, look first at missing redirects, variants with no stock and the mobile cart.
Checking the import with an AI assistant
An AI assistant connected to the store with a PAT token checks an imported catalog in minutes: it reads the catalog through the CloudCart API and answers in a list. Paste the sentence from the AI integration page into Claude Code, ChatGPT Codex, Cursor, VS Code or Gemini CLI, create a key under "PAT tokens" in the admin, and write in English what you want.
| Task after the import | The sentence for the assistant |
|---|---|
| Catalog completeness | "Find the products with no image, price or category and list them by SKU." |
| Reconciling with the export | "Here is the CSV from Shopify. Compare the number of products and variants with the store and show me the differences." |
| SEO after the switch | "Write meta descriptions up to 155 characters for the products that have none." |
How many products you can import on each plan
The plan sets how many products you can import, according to the pricing page:
| Plan | Price per month (annual, excl. VAT) | Products in the store | Product CSV import |
|---|---|---|---|
| Baby Pack | €14 | up to 100 | 100 |
| Starter Pack | €33 | up to 2,000 | 2,000 |
| CC Pro | €83 | up to 7,500 | 7,500 |
| CC Master | €249 | unlimited | 10,000 |
In the Shopify export every variant is a row, while in CloudCart a T-shirt in 4 colors and 5 sizes is one product with 20 variants. Count the unique products (the Handle column in Shopify, the parent products in WooCommerce) against the plan limit.
Good practice when importing from another platform
- Keep the original file. Save an untouched copy of the export before you change anything.
- Test with a small slice. Import 20 to 30 products, including a few with variations, before the full catalog.
- Run imports one at a time. CloudCart runs one CSV import at a time for the whole store. Go in order: products, customers, redirects. Blog posts go in with the Blog CSV Import app.
- Leave dead stock behind. Hide or delete on the old platform the products you have not sold for a year.
- Check the weights. Shipping prices from Econt, Speedy and BOX NOW (the main Bulgarian couriers and parcel locker network) depend on them, so review 5 to 10 products.
Mistakes to avoid
- A plugin export in place of the built-in one. The data lands in the wrong fields. Upload such a file with the general CSV import and map the columns.
- A new upload while the last one runs. It clears the progress and records of the previous import in WooCommerce Importer and the Shopify app.
- Closing the old store on import day. Orders, invoices and the old URLs for the redirects come from it. Close it after the checks.
- A marketing email to every imported customer. Newsletters go only to customers who gave consent.
If an import stops with an error you cannot explain, write to support@cloudcart.com with the name of the app and the file you uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
Export the products in the Shopify admin with Products → Export as CSV, then in CloudCart open Apps → Shopify, switch on Active and upload the file. Rows with the same Handle become one product with variants, and the images are downloaded into CloudCart. Keep the columns in the order Shopify exports them.
No. The importers move products, and Magento Importer also moves customers. The CloudCart team moves order history as part of a migration and keeps it separately, for reference and accounting.
No. Magento Importer connects through SOAP API v1, which only Magento 1.x has. From Magento 2 the CloudCart team moves the store through the API or an export, or you upload the products yourself with the CSV import.
There is no separate OpenCart importer. Export the products from OpenCart as CSV or XML and upload them with the general CSV or XML import, mapping the columns to CloudCart fields, or let the CloudCart team move the store for you.
No. Passwords are stored as a one-way hash and cannot be moved from any platform. The customer sets a new password through "Forgot password", and with Magento Importer CloudCart can send every imported customer a reset link itself.
